Travel
Student-athletes are expected to travel to and from all intercollegiate athletic competition as part of the official travel party
. Exceptions to this policy require advanced approval by the head coach, the Director of Athletics or request from the student-athlete, parents or guardian.
The Travel Exception Form may be obtained from the Athletic Office.
Teams are responsible for making sure their means of transportation are cleaned of all trash immediately upon return. Failure to do so will jeopardize the team’s future travel needs.
On any official SUNY Morrisville intercollegiate athletic team travel or related team activity, student-athletes are prohibited from consuming alcohol products, tobacco, or using any NCAA banned or illegal substances.
Athletic Facilities
Competing at SUNY Morrisville is a privilege, not a right. It is the expectation of all student-athlete, coaches and staff involved with athletics at SUNY Morrisville abide by all policies and rules established for athletic facilities, inclusive of all locker rooms, fitness facilities, fields, gymnasiums and recreation spaces. It is the expectation that facilities remain clean and usable for other programs within intercollegiate athletics.
SUNY Morrisville and the athletics department will not take responsibility for any Items not secured in athletic facilities. All student-athletes, and at the request of department coaches and staff, will be assigned a secured locker within designated sport locker rooms.
Uniforms, Apparel and Team Equipment
Team members are prohibited from wearing any athletic department apparel or items promoting SUNY Morrisville Athletics in such way that would cast a negative light on the college and its athletic programs. This includes any online websites and commercial enterprises that would result in calling to question the amateur status of a student-athlete.
- Uniforms & Equipment: Student-athletes are responsible for all assigned uniforms/equipment at the beginning of the season and are expected to return all certified equipment items within 5 business days at the conclusion of the season. Failure to return items that were issued may result in the student-athlete being placed on an Accounts Receivable HOLD and charged for full replacement value.
- Locker Policy: Lockers are the property of the college. Student-athletes assume full responsibility for all items stored in the locker and locker room. Items of significant monetary value should not be stored in the locker or locker room. The college is not responsible for loss or damage to any items stored in the locker/locker room. The college reserves the right to enter lockers at any time. Normal circumstances when lockers would be accessed include the following:
- If a student fails to empty his/her locker at the end of the season or when a student quits or is removed from the team.
- At the request of the individual if he/she is no longer in school or is on medical leave.
- An emergency situation deemed appropriate by the college and the athletic department.
- The equipment room will retain items that are property of the college. Personal items will be held for two weeks and disposed of at the discretion of the college. The college takes no responsibility for removed items.
Dual semester student-athletes (basketball and ice hockey) are expected to have all equipment remain in issued locker during the official vacation period in between semesters.
- Laundry Service: Laundry loops will be distributed to each student-athlete to facilitate laundering of practice gear and affiliated athletic apparel. The equipment room will only wash those items, department issued and personal, that were worn for practice or contest related activities. College issued apparel worn for practice and competition must be returned to the equipment room immediately after each practice or competition for laundering. To maintain uniform integrity, all competition uniforms must be returned for laundering by the student-athlete, regardless of whether or not they competed. If items cannot be returned immediately following practice or contests, the competition worn articles must be returned before practice the following day. Student-athletes, relatives or friends are not permitted to launder uniforms on their own. Coaching staff will be responsible for laundering services when individuals/teams are away from campus for an extended length of time (e.g. spring break tourney, NCAA championships, etc.).
