Playing and competing for SUNY Morrisville is a privilege. Student-athletes have the responsibility to portray their team, their institution and themselves in a positive manner at all times.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat, Tik Tok and other social media sites have increased in popularity and are used by many in one form or another.
For the safety of student-athletes and department coaches and staff, please keep the following recommendations in mind as one participates in social media websites and activities:
- Set security settings so that only approved friends can view your profile. Understand that whatever is posted online is available to anyone, including media, faculty, staff, future employers and NCAA officials.
- Consider how your behaviors can be reflected in all social media applications.
- Be aware of who you add as a friend to your site. Many people are looking to take advantage of student-athletes or seek connection with student-athletes.
- Exercise caution as to what information you post about your whereabouts or plans. Posting personal information could lead to unwanted attention, stalking, identity theft, etc.
- Be aware of and adhere to requirements as outlined by the NCAA, SUNY Morrisville Athletics, and conference offices regarding contact with prospective student-athletes via social media. It is your responsibility to be aware of such policies.
Â
Student-athletes could face disciplinary actions and even dismissal from their team if information posted on one of these sites violates standards or policies of SUNY Morrisville, the Athletics Department, or the NCAA.
