SUNY Morrisville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

Mission
The institutional mission of our SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete well-being and fostering a positive student-athlete image. SAAC also acts as a conduit for communication between the Student-Athletes and the Athletic Administration.

Purpose
The SUNY Morrisville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was formed for the purpose of:
  1. Providing a communication link between varsity athletes and the athletic administration.
  2. Encouraging communication along with unity among and between varsity athletes and teams.
  3. Increasing awareness of athletic programs on campus and in the community.
Membership
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be comprised of two varsity athletes (more than two may attend meeting but only two official representatives) from each sports team appointed by their respective coaches based on team member recommendations. Each team will receive one vote with one representative from each team designated as a voting member, while the other will be an alternate. Both representatives are strongly encouraged to be in attendance at all SAAC meetings and functions.

While any student-athlete may attend SAAC meetings, only the appointed team representatives will be allowed to vote.  The varsity sport head coach will be responsible for appointing their sports representatives.

Election
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee members are appointed by their respective coaches based on team member’s recommendations. Each representative is expected to serve a one-year term and may be reelected. Team representatives should be selected in the spring semester for the upcoming year. Any varsity student athlete is eligible for appointment. Student-athletes may only represent one team per year, even though they may play multiple sports. For example, no athlete can represent the football and the men’s lacrosse team at the same time.
  1.  Responsibilities:
    1. Attend all Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meetings
    2. If unable to attend a meeting, ensure that the alternate will be in attendance
    3. Represent the team’s views in committee meetings. Keep the team apprised of current committee issues and communicate the team’s views to the committee.
    4. Encourage team members to assist with any projects deemed significant by the committee
  2. Executive Board / Officers: There shall be no more than two athlete representatives from the same sport on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Executive Board at one time.
    1. President – is the official contact for the committee, will preside at all meetings and is responsible for preparing the agenda.
    2. Vice President – Assumes Presidential responsibilities when needed. Arranges all special events or projects.
    3. Information Officer – Serves as the communication liaison between SAAC and all student-athletes, including SAAC representatives. Specific duties include monitoring attendance and recording minutes at all meetings, type minutes and send to faculty advisor, posting written notification of upcoming general meetings and other special events.
    4. Social Media Officer – Updates all of our social media campaigns and informs the general public about any and all activities by/of SAAC that include the public.
  3. Elections: Elected executive board positions will be voted on at the last meeting of the Spring Term. At the first meeting of the Fall semester, the elected officers will assume their newly elected positions.
  4. Voting: There must be a quorum for voting purposes. A quorum is a majority, or 50% plus one of the voting representatives present.
  5. Amendments and Ratifications: Proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing and read at the general membership meeting. Discussion and voting on the proposal shall be held at the next scheduled meeting. The constitution may be amended only with a majority vote of three/fourths or 75% of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAC) voting members present.
  6. Meetings: The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will meet every other week or as deemed necessary by the SAAC Officers and/or Advisor.

Strength and Conditioning
SUNY Morrisville Strength and Conditioning is committed to the mental and physical health and wellness of our student-athletes.
