Section I: SUNY Morrisville Intercollegiate Athletics Program

SUNY Morrisville Mission Statement

It is the role of the SUNY Morrisville Athletic Department to provide all student-athletes an equal opportunity to develop their academic, athletic and social skills to a higher level. To teach a student-athlete the underlying message of athletics as it relates to areas outside their specific sport.
Teamwork, cooperation, competition, communication, goal setting, dedication, accepting responsibility, and sacrifice are important lessons learned from athletics. It is our mission to guide our student-athletes to a holistic view of athletics in order for the individual to better succeed in life.

NCAA Division III Philosophy Statement

Colleges and universities in Division III place the highest priority on the overall quality of the educational experience and on the successful completion of all students’ academic programs. They seek to establish and maintain an environment in which a student-athlete’s athletics activities are conducted as an integral part of the student-athlete’s educational experience, and an environment that values cultural diversity and gender equity among their student-athletes and athletics staff.
  • Discover: Division III student-athletes are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions beyond the classroom and field of play ... to discover themselves.
  • Develop: Division III institutions provide an environment that encourages student-athletes to develop into well-rounded adults. Small class sizes, the ability to participate in more than one sport, and an emphasis on participating in activities outside the classroom are all hallmarks of the Division III experience.
  • Dedicate: Division III institutions expect student-athletes to dedicate themselves to achieving their potential. Student-athletes must manage their busy schedules, keep up with class work and face the same challenges as the rest of the student-body.

College / Conference / NCAA Rules

As a member of an intercollegiate athletic team, SUNY Morrisville student-athletes will comply with all rules and regulations established by the college, the department of athletics, as well as the conference in which they compete and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

SUNY Morrisville is affiliated with the United East Conference along with the Empire 8 (football), State University of New York Athletic Conference (field hockey, men’s ice hockey), North East Women’s Hockey League (women’s ice hockey) and the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (hunt seat and western equestrian).

Rules and policies are widely available for all NCAA and conference affiliations. Should a student-athlete have a question regarding a situation and the potential for a violation of college, conference, or NCAA rules the athletic department administration will be able to assist with an interpretation.
