Disciplinary Actions for SUNY Morrisville Student-Athletes

Athletic Department Disciplinary Actions for Student-Athletes (as of June 2022)

For resident hall violations and institutional violations, students should consult the SUNY Morrisville Student Handbook. SUNY Morrisville student-athletes are held to the standards and consequences outlined in the NCAA Drug Testing Program for Division III. Underage use of drugs or alcohol is not permitted and student-athletes will be subject for removal from Athletics if found in violation and referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.

*The case is reviewed when the outcome of a hearing is known. A minimum suspension of 10% of the season will occur, with a possible additional suspension as applied by team rules, including potential program dismissal.

Senior Staff plus coach will make disciplinary recommendations to the Athletic Director; immediate suspension may occur.
 
Notes:
A.) The Athletic Director is the only one to reinstate a student-athlete after a suspension. A letter with accompanying sanctions will be provided to the student-athlete. This letter will be issued after the outcome of a hearing is known.
B.) Department violations are cumulative through one calendar year from date of initial offense, regardless of sport participation where violation occurred. Team violations will be addressed through team policies and procedures. Documentation will be kept in the student-athletes compliance folder for reference.
C.) Any report that the office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Athletic Office, Coaches, or Senior Staff receive about incident may be discussed between the same to determine if the report came from a credible source (such as a police report or newspaper report) and if an investigation should begin.
D.) Suspensions are for NCAA events where statistics are kept and not scrimmages or alumni games.
E.) Suspensions are served on the next NCAA event as explained in (D) and if post season, the next post season event(s). Contests missed while the alleged violation is being investigated will be applied towards the suspension of the student-athlete.
F.) Multiple student-athlete suspensions of a team will result in the Athletic Director (with consultation with senior staff) deciding on suspension events.
G.) Athletic Director or designee may convene the grievance committee to address any and all issues related to student-athlete welfare and/or the department's mission.
H.) The senior staff may review any case at the request of the coach.
