Goeller Earns First Win at Morrisville in Season Opener

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville hosted Alfred University Saturday afternoon to open their 2026 season with a 16-13 victory, giving Vic Goeller his first win as head coach of the Mustangs.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The Mustangs battled through a back-and-forth opening period, with goals from Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) and Deli Vega-Haley (Worcester, N.Y.) keeping Morrisville within one as Alfred held a 4-3 lead at the end of the first.
  • Morrisville started the second period on fire as Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and Grace Loadwick (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) both scored within the first minute.
  • The Saxons answered quickly with three unanswered before Budney and Ella Oakes (Hogansburg, N.Y.)each scored once to tie the game entering the break.
  • Ingersoll couldn't be stopped in the second half, adding three of her nine goals in the third.
  • Mary Trowbridge (Brookhaven, N.Y.) added a goal in the third on a man-up opportunity, helping the Mustangs secure a 11-9 lead entering the final 15 minutes.
  • Alfred started the final period strong scoring three straight before the ten minute mark.
  • It ultimately wouldn't matter as Ingersoll took the game over, scoring four of the Mustangs' five goals in the last period.
  • Morrisville was led by Ingersoll who scored nine goals including seven in the second half.
  • Budney was second in scoring with three goals while four other Mustangs each posted one goal.
  • Loadwick led the team in assists with three.
  • Ingersoll also anchored the Mustang defense with 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers, while goalie Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) recorded seven saves across 60 minutes of action.
  • In goal for the Saxons, Molly Howlett, recorded 12 saves while midfielders Jordan Genant and Megan Rinker led the offense with four goals each.

  • Morrisville will travel to Keuka College on Tuesday to face the Wolves in a non-conference matchup at 4 PM.
