Slow start sinks Morrisville women against Oswego

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team dropped to 0-2 in SUNYAC play Saturday afternoon as visiting Oswego State got off to a fast start en route to a 20-3 league decision on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse found themselves behind early Saturday afternoon as visiting Oswego State came out of the gates fast, collecting a 20-3 SUNYAC final decision on Drake Field in Morrisville.
  • Oswego opened the contest with 11 tallies in the first quarter, netting the first under a minute in and outgained the Mustangs for the 16-0 advantage at the break.
  • The Lakers added three more tallies in the third, before Morrisville broke through in the fourth and scored three straight, two that came on the extra woman opportunity.
  • Morrisville's first tally came off the stick of Mikaela Iza (North Babylon, N.Y.) at the 6:36 mark, before Iyla Lilleby (Medina, N.Y.) posted her first of two straight with three minutes remaining.
  • Lilleby added a second with 1:13 to go, wrapping up all scoring for the day as Morrisville held the Lakers scoreless in the final frame.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) had five stops in the loss for Morrisville, before Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) appeared in the second half between the pipes, collecting five saves.
  • Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) and Keeley Riley (Dexter, N.Y.) assisted the Mustangs defensive efforts with three ground balls apiece.

  • Morrisville will hit the road for a three-game skid, starting Wednesday at Buffalo State. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Buffalo.
