Morrisville women fall in season opener to Bryn Athyn

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse dropped their season opener Saturday afternoon, with visiting Bryn Athyn collecting the 19-4 non-conference win on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse dropped their season opener Saturday afternoon on their home field in Morrisville, falling 19-4 to Bryn Athyn College in non-league action.
  • The Lions opened with the first four scores of the first quarter, before Morrisville put one in the back of the net, a collegiate first score for Iyla Lilleby (Medina, N.Y.) off the feed from behind the net by Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.).
  • Bryn Athyn added five more tallies for the 9-1 advantage after one quarter of action.
  • Samantha Budney (Pine Bush, N.Y.) picked up her first score of the season, netting the extra-attacker score early in the second.
  • Morrisville and Bryn Athyn traded scores over the ensuing 13 minutes, including a second from Lilleby, before back-to-back tallies by the Lions sent the game into the break with a 13-3 Mustan deficit.
  • Ingersoll notched one of her own midway through the third for the quarter's first score, but the Lions closed out the contest with the final six goals, claiming the 19-4 win.
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) recorded five stops in the loss for the Mustangs, appearing in the first half of play.
  • Aniyah Smith (Grovetown, Ga.) finished out the second half, turning aside three.
  • Ingersoll added four ground balls and give caused turnovers to the Mustang efforts on the day, collecting three draw controls.
  • Budney picked up four ground balls to go along with a caused turnover.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will return to the field next Saturday, hosting Oneonta on Drake Field in the team's first SUNYAC outing of the season.
