Mustangs stumble in second half, fall to Brockport in E8 play

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville football team suffered a 24-0 setback Saturday afternoon to host SUNY Brockport in Empire 8 action, allowing 17 second half points in the league loss on the road.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville football fell in Empire 8 action Saturday afternoon to host SUNY Brockport, allowing 17 second half points, as the Golden Eagles captured the 24-0 league win on Bob Boozer Field in Brockport.
  • In a battle in the midfield, Morrisville generated 172 yards total offense on the afternoon, compiling 142 through the air, while netting a total 32 in the running game, having lost 72 throughout the contest.
  • Christopher Stancarone (Levittown, N.Y.) completed 14-of-33 pass attempts for 142 yards, hitting Connor Marriott (Waterville, N.Y.) for a team high 60 yards on six receptions.
  • Ed-Son Jean-Baptiste (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a team high 25 net yards rushing, with Isaac Sylvain (Schenectady, N.Y.) registering a net 23.
  • Defensively, Dillon English (Webster, N.Y.) posted a season high 10 tackles in the loss, registering two for a loss of eight yards, including a sack for a loss of six.
  • David Kelley (Macedon, N.Y.) added nine in the Mustang efforts, five for a loss of 12 yards and a sack for a loss of four.
  • Eric Sparkman (Syracuse, N.Y.) forced a fumble, returning the recovery 18 yards, as Omar Jarvis (Rochester, N.Y.) added an interception, as the Mustangs defense forced two Brockport turnovers.
  • Ben Gocella completed 9-of-15 passes for 104 yards, while Michael Rende added a 2-for-4 performance for 21 yards to contribute to the 125 yard passing game for the hosts.
  • Isaiah Simmons led all ball carriers with 26 attempts for a net 155 yards, scoring twice.
  • Nolan Slywka had three receptions for 64 yards to lead the receiving unit for Brockport, getting another 21 from Daniel Manneh on four catches.
  • Ben Robinson and Mike Talbert led Brockport's defense with a double-digit afternoon, collecting 13 and 11 tackles, respectively, while combining for five tackles for a loss of 25 yards.
  • After a scoreless opening quarter, Brockport put the first touchdown on the scoreboard with 4:35 to go in the half, putting together a 12-play, 78-yard scoring drive that was capped off by a 13-yard run by Simmons for the 7-0 lead at the half.
  • Brockport, who deferred after wining the coin toss, returned the second half kick-off 65-yards to the Mustangs 32-yard line to start their opening drive of the third, capitalizing as Simmons posted his second rushing score, a 24-yard touchdown, within three plays.
  • On the ensuing possession, Brockport forced a three-and-out and a Mustang punt, where Jean-Baptiste booted the ball a career long 80-yards for the touchback.
  • The Mustangs defense limited the Golden Eagles to just 23-yards on their ensuing possession and following a fumble that returned possession to the hosts, Sparkman forced Simmons to fumble, recovering the ball for an 18-yard return to their own 40-yard line.
  • Brockport added a 31-yard field goal to their totals late in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 17-0, and on the ensuing Morrisville possession added a defensive score as Stancarone was picked off and the ball returned for a touchdown.
  • The hosts forced a second straight turnover on Morrisville's following possession, sealing the conference win.
