Comeback attempt falls short for Morrisville women Tuesday

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team made a late run to erase a double-digit deficit Tuesday night against visiting Hartwick College, but fell short on time as the Hawks escaped with a 58-53 non-conference win in Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Team Scores: Morrisville 53, Hartwick 58
  • Location: STUAC Gymnasium, Morrisville, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 7-14, Hartwick 7-12

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball made a fourth quarter run in Tuesday night's non-conference battle with visiting Hartwick College, but ran out of time as the Hawks collected the 58-53 victory in Morrisville.
  • Anyssia Ingersoll (Mexico, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 16 points, adding two steals and three assists to her totals, while Tayghan Doorley (Hornell, N.Y.) added nine points off the bench, all from behind the arc.
  • Abbie Platt (Oneonta, N.Y.) chipped in seven points to go along with a team high 10 rebounds, also defensively collecting three blocks and two steals.
  • Morrisville trailed by five at the half before falling behind by seven after three quarters of action.
  • Quick Hawk buckets set the Mustangs back 11 early on in the final frame, but a three by Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) ignited the Mustangs to go on an 11-2 run over the ensuing three minutes to cut the lead to two.
  • Morrisville played within one possession of the Hawks until the 2:16 mark when Hartwick extended their lead to eight.
  • Platt hit the backend of two free throws and later Ingersoll added a layup on the fast break to cut the lead to five, but that's as close as the Mustangs would get as Hartwick claimed the win.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville is on the road Friday, traveling to SUNY Canton for a NAC battle, before heading to Vermont to face Johnson on Saturday.
