Morrisville's McDonald nets 100th career point in regular season finale

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team suffered their first United East loss of the season Friday afternoon as league leading St. Mary's College (MD) took over sole possession of the top spot with a 18-7 conference win on Drake Field in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting St. Mary's College (MD) scored 12 times in the first half to defeat host SUNY Morrisville Friday afternoon in United East women's lacrosse action, netting the victory 18-7.
  • Morrisville's Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) led the host efforts with four goals, while collecting three ground balls and five draw controls.
  • Walker, who also added a caused turnover, was 2-for-2 in free positions on the day.
  • Junior midfielder Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.) added three tallies, including her 100th career point in the third quarter off the feed to the center of the arc from Pippy Pritchard (Saskatoon, Sask.).
  • Rebecca Thomas (Marcy, N.Y.) turned away 14 in the defensive efforts between the pipes, including four that were on the doorstop of the crease.
  • St. Mary's controlled the opening quarter, claiming the 6-0 lead and extended the advantage to eight before Walker was able to put the Mustangs on the board with her driving tally.
  • Walker added a second moments later on the free position but St. Mary's outgained the hosts 6-2 in the second frame for the 12-2 lead at the break.
  • The freshman completed the hat trick in the opening minute of the third, before collecting a fourth tally early on in the fourth quarter on the free position.
  • McDonald posted back-to-back tallies for the Mustangs, including her 100th point at the 6:03 mark of the final frame, before adding another with three minutes to go.
  • St. Mary's wrapped up all scoring with two final tallies down the stretch to collect the win.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville concludes the regular season 7-8 and will await tournament seeding as announced by the conference office Sunday. The Mustangs wrap up the United East schedule with a 4-1 overall record.
  • Tournament seeding is expected to be announced this weekend.
