Morrisville closes out season schedule on the road

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville football team closed out the 2021 season slate Saturday afternoon, falling 14-7 to host Hartwick College in wet and cold conditions in Oneonta.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville football closed out the 2021 season Saturday with a road loss to host Hartwick College in the schedule's finale held in Oneonta.
  • The Mustangs put the first score on the board early on in the first, completing the 66-yard drive with a 15-yard scramble from Steven Frerichs (Wilson, N.Y.) who found the endzone in nine plays on Morrisville's first possession.
  • The low scoring affair saw Hartwick answer the score a quarter later, before taking the lead with 6:55 to go in the fourth quarter on a 36-yard scoring run.
  • Frerichs completed 8-of-22 passes for a total 65 yards on the day, 25 to Jarrell Chaney (Albany, N.Y.) who reined in two.
  • The sophomore quarterback led the efforts on the ground in slippery conditions, collecting 103 net yards, an average of 6.9 per carry, on 15 attempts.
  • Philemon Benjamin (Queens, N.Y.) led the defensive efforts with a career high 18 tackles, 10 solo stops, also recording a quarterback hurry and a pass break up.
  • Two and a half of Benjamin's tackles were for a loss of five yards.
  • Ernesto Mitchell (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) also notched double digits in the efforts, collecting a total 16 tackles, 10 solo, while teammate Will Brown (Amherst, N.Y.) added 13, 2.5 for a loss of four yards.
  • Hartwick outgained the Mustangs 364 yards total offense to 191, collecting 304 in the running game behind 208 yards from Davien Kuilan.
  • Devon Brown added another 96, recording the game winning score in the final frame.
  • Morrisville's Hunter Regels (Gansevoort, N.Y.) was effective for the Mustangs in the kicking game, punting away a total six for 274-yards, an average of 45.7 per kick.
  • The sophomore placed two inside the 20 and registered a long of 50 yards on the day.

  • Morrisville concludes the season with a 2-8 overall record, going 1-5 in Empire 8 action.
