Morrisville women wrap up regular season with dominating win over Harrisburg

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team concluded the regular season Saturday afternoon with a dominating 102-70 win over visiting Penn St. Harrisburg, securing the second slot in the North Division standings in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), and opening round tournament host bid.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville ran away with their regular season contest Saturday afternoon, handing visiting Penn State Harrisburg a convincing 102-70 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.
  • Morrisville, with the win, locked up the second seed in the North Division, finishing the regular season with a 13-3 league record, their best since the 2016-17 season.
  • The Mustangs had an all-around team effort in the victory, with four netting double digits, including senior Tori Rockefeller (South Kortright, N.Y.) who paved the way with 23, hitting five from behind the arc on the afternoon. Rockefeller also added three assists and five rebounds to her totals on Senior Day.
  • Fellow guards Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) and Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) turned in a 19-point outing, each, combining for a total 10 assist and nine steals.
  • Miranda Wright (Smyrna, N.Y.) added 11 points, snagging four boards, while teammate A-laya Wright (Henrietta, N.Y.) grabbed six rebounds to lead the Mustangs, adding two assists to go along with two blocked shots and her five points.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) rounded out the leaderboard for the Mustangs with nine points, picking up three steals and assists.
  • Morrisville utilized a near 50% shooting effort from the floor across all four quarters, posting a best 58.3% in the final frame as they doubled up the Lions 26-13 to cruise to the win.
  • The Mustangs finished with 14 three's on the day, hitting 45.2% from beyond the arc, and collected a total 38 points in the paint as they found their way through the Harrisburg defense.
  • Morrisville forced Harrisburg into 31 turnovers collecting 37 points off the Lion miscues.
  • The first quarter was a back-and-forth effort by each team, as each tested the opposing defense, but it was the Mustangs, who off the hot hand of Rockefeller from long range, took the lead for the remainder of the contest with 1:25 remaining in the opening frame.
  • Harrisburg was able to cut the deficit to two before time expired, but the second quarter saw the hosts run away for a 49-32 halftime lead as Morrisville out-gained the Lions 26-11 in the frame.
  • Prior to the game, the Mustangs honored its senior class.

  • Morrisville locked up the second spot in the North Division standings in the league and will host SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday in the opening round of the conference tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Morrisville.
