Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team battled through two overtime periods, but suffered a heartbreaking 12-11 double overtime loss Saturday afternoon to visiting and Route 20 Rival, Cazenovia College, in Morrisville.
The loss is the first for the Mustangs in conference play as they drop to 2-7 on the year, 1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference action.
Cazenovia ups their record to 4-4, 2-0 in NEAC play.
Jackie O'Sullivan (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) each posted three scores to lead the Mustangs in the efforts, while teammate Jenna Harris (Owego, N.Y.) added two goals and had two assists.
Kallie George (Tully, N.Y.) recorded the loss between the pipes, saving five, as she replaced Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) in the second half. Dunphy registered one save in the first half of play.
Morrisville State took the 11-10 lead with 4:30 to go in regulation on a score by Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.), but Cazenovia quickly responded with the tying score with 2:35 to go on a free position to send the physical contest into the overtime period.
With two minutes remaining in the second overtime frame, Mackenzie Bresett rolled around her defender and snuck the ball past George to capture the win for the visitors.
Morrisville State edged Cazenovia in ground balls 38-30 on the day, while playing even in draws with 14 each, and nearly even in shots (25-24 in favor of the Mustangs.
Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to Keuka College for a 7 p.m. NEAC matchup.
