Box Score MARCY, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team scored 10 second half goals as they topped North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) host SUNY Polytechnic Wednesday night in Marcy.
The win is the second for the Mustangs within conference play, improving to 2-0 in the NEAC and 2-5 overall on the season. SUNY Poly drops to 3-3, 1-1 within NEAC action.
Hunter Waldau (Central Square, N.Y.) and Shelby Wood (Duanesburg, N.Y.) each notched five goals apiece to lead Morrisville State, while the Mustangs also got three goals off the stick of Ally Zlinsky (Owego, N.Y.) and one each from Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Paige Biviano (Cazenovia, N.Y.).
Mustang goalkeeper Kallie George (Tully, N.Y.) collected her first collegiate win between the pipes, turning away eight on the night.
Corrina Marconi and Tierney McGlynn notched three scores each to lead the hosts. Cassidy Thompson made four stops for the Wildcats in net, recording the loss. All of Thompsons saves came in the first half of action.
Both teams played to a back and forth opening half, with the final tally of the first 30 minutes coming with just 10 seconds to go off the stick of Wood on the free position to send the teams into the halftime period with a five goal tie.
In the second, Morrisville State rattled off four straight scores for the 9-5 advantage, before Poly was able to cut it to a two goal game on a free position by Marconi at the 21:07 mark.
After trading scores less than two minutes apart, the Mustangs went on a 5-0 run to open the contest to a 15-8 lead over the ensuing seven minutes as Waldau and Wood each put two in the back of the net, followed by one from Biviano.
The deficit proved too much for the hosts to overcome, despite two additional scores in the final three minutes of the contest, as Morrisville State collected the conference win.
Poly held the 24-16 advantage in ground balls and edged Morrisville State in draws, 15-11, but the Mustangs were able to force 17 Wildcat turnovers, 11 alone in the second half.
Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, traveling to SUNY Potsdam for a non-conference match. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Potsdam.
