Paul breaks scoring record as Morrisville State women roll to 70-37 win over Cobleskill

Box Score

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) made history Wednesday night, netting 10 points to break the all-time scoring record, as Morrisville State College women's basketball cruised to a 70-37 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win over visiting SUNY Cobleskill in Morrisville.

Paul entered the contest needing just seven points to break the 805-point record set by Lee Oliver (Morrisville, N.Y.) in 2002. She ended the contest with 10 total points and now sits at the top of the leaderboard with 809 for her career, while adding seven rebounds and four assists to lift the Mustangs to a 15-6 overall record, 11-3 conference stint.

The loss drops Cobleskill to 2-17 overall, 1-13 in NEAC play.

Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) came off the bench to net 15 points to lead Morrisville State in scoring, draining 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Teammates Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) and Alyssa Gratien (Syracuse, N.Y.) each posted 13 to round out the leaderboard for the Mustangs.

Sophomore Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) dished out seven assists.

Cobleskill was led by sophomore Shelby Preston (Ravena, N.Y.) who posted a team high 12 points and nine rebounds, while Jocelyn Zaneski (Riverhead, N.Y.) added five points and two assists in the Fighting Tiger efforts.

Morrisville State opened the contest with 15 straight points before Cobleskill was able to get on the board and increased their lead to a 38-13 halftime advantage, a deficit that proved too much for the visitors down the stretch.

Paul's record breaking point came at the 15:22 mark in the second half as she caught a fast break layup off a long pass from Gratien.

Morrisville State held the 44-34 advantage on the glass, and hit 38.5% from the floor on 25-of-65 shots. Cobleskill went 17-for-55 from the floor on the night (30.9%).

The Mustangs return to the court Saturday, February 14, hosting Bryn Athyn College at 1 p.m. for senior day. Cobleskill hosts Lancaster Bible College Saturday in a 1 p.m. tip-off.
