Morrisville western team resumes competition in 2024

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville western equestrian team resumed competition for the 2024 season Saturday, placing third overall at the Mustangs IHSA competition in the afternoon at the Morrisville riding arena.

Location: Morrisville Western Riding Arena, Morrisville, N.Y.
High Point Team: Oswego
Reserve High Point Team: University of Guelph
High Point Rider: Sierra Barry, Oswego
Reserve High Point Rider: Maggie Herbert, Morrisville & Jenna Tyson, Morrisville

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The SUNY Morrisville western equestrian team resumed competition Saturday, hosting an afternoon IHSA show at the Morrisville indoor riding arena on Swamp Road.
The Mustangs finished third overall in the show, compiling 19 team points.
Jenna Tyson (Pottstown, Pa.) kicked off the day's competition with a first place showing in the Reining class, as fellow teammates Amelia Jaworski (Lafayette, N.Y.) and Maggie Herbert (Jeffersonville, N.Y.) posted a second and third place ride, respectively.
Herbert picked up her first win of 2024 in the open western horsemanship class, followed by Mikenna Riethmiller (North Collins, N.Y.) with a second-place ride, and Tyson in third.
Emma Koehler (Gansevoort, N.Y.) posted a second-place finish in the rookie B western horsemanship, section A class, while fellow competitor Samantha Bright (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) turned in a third-place ride.
Kara Teal (Poestenkill, N.Y.) rode to the top of the rookie B, section B class with fellow teammate Madison Smith (East Berlin, Pa.) finishing third.
Bryn Zionkowski (Wyalusing, Pa.) and Summer Billings (Endicott, N.Y.) finished first and second, respectively, in the rookie B western horsemanship, section C class.
Anna Warner (VanEtten, N.Y.) picked up a win in the rookie A western horsemanship class to round out the top rides for the afternoon show.

WHAT'S NEXT:

Morrisville returns to the riding arena on Sunday, as Oswego hosts a double show at the Mustangs indoor riding facility. Morning competition began at 9 a.m.
