Western opens 2023 riding season with wins

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville western equestrian team opened the 2023-24 riding season Sunday with two team victories, claiming high point team accolades among five competing teams in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Host SUNY Morrisville western equestrian opened the 2023-24 riding season with high point team honors Sunday, following up with a second-high point team accolade as they claimed the top spot in the double show hosted by Syracuse University at the Morrisville Western Riding Arena on Swamp Road in Morrisville.
Jenna Tyson (Pottstown, Pa.) earned high point rider accolades for the first show of the collegiate season, collecting a second-place ride in the level II ranch riding class, before following up with the winning ride in the level II western horsemanship class.
Maggie Herbert (Jeffersonville, N.Y.) put together a second-place ride for the Mustangs in the reining class, followed by Mikenna Riethmiller (North Collins, N.Y.) with her top ride in ranch riding.
Amelia Jaworski (Lafayette, N.Y.) collected her first win of 2023 in the open western horsemanship class, with fellow Mustang Riethmiller earning second.
Rita Dziedzic (Goshen, Conn.) was second overall in the level I western horsemanship class, while Morrisville swept the competition in the rookie B class with wins from Emma Koehler (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and Samantha Bright (Ballston Spa, N.Y.).
Nadia Endulovski (Rochester, N.Y.) had a second-place ride in section C of the rookie class.
Anna Warner (VanEtten, N.Y.) took home her first blue ribbon of the year with her top ride in the rookie A class, while Kada Tillman (Orange Beach, Ala.) also earned the first-place honor in section C.
In the afternoon class, Herbert rode to the top of the reining class for her first win of the year, followed by a winning ride for Tyson in the level II ranch riding class who was named the high point rider for the show.
Jaworski was the top rider in the open western horsemanship class to earn the blue ribbon, earning reserve high point rider honors.
Rebecca Bushen (North Collins, N.Y. earned second in the beginner western horsemanship, section A class, while Alyson Hyatt (Patterson, N.Y.) took home a second-place ride in level I western horsemanship, section B.
Warner collected her second win of the year in the rookie A class, while Tillman added a second win to her day in the beginner class, section C.

WHAT'S NEXT:

Morrisville will host a double show on December 3 at the indoor arena on Swamp Road.
